Industry Involvement

Lynwood has been part of the avocado industry since 1983, and have immersed ourselves in its development from a cottage industry to a well structured and governed export crop.

As the industry vision is for growth to 10,000 Ha by 2040 (currently 5500 Ha), Lynwood will be central to that growth.

Both Stephen Wade and Stuart Pascoe have served on the executive committee of the NZ Avocado Growers Association. Stephen is currently the Chairman of the NZ Avocado Nursery Association. Sarah Williamson is often contracted to do avocado industry research.

Lynwood has hosted numerous Industry and Exporter field days over the years, and in 2019 hosted our first “Lynwood Field Day”. This attracted over 200 people making it the largest field day ever in NZ. As a result, it is now an annual event, as many are keen to catch up with techniques and various research projects being conducted at Lynwood.

Lynwood always has research projects on the go, both in the nursery and on the orchard. The knowledge gained from the nursery allows us to keep in the top two or three nurseries globally. The research in the orchard is shared with all as we strive to add to a strong, vibrant industry. We currently have both industry and individual rootstock trials happening. We are working on techniques to maximise production and quality from our high density plantings. We are also experimenting with pruning techniques, trellising, weed control options, to name a few. Please contact our Sales team as we are happy to share the results. What is good for the industry is good for us.

Steve and Stuart have attended the last two World Avocado Congress’s in Peru and Columbia. This helps us connect with the scientific community and to keep up with the latest thinking and developments worldwide. We also support local conferences and are excited that WAC 2023 is happening in NZ.
